Tim Bradley thinks Devin Haney’s decision to file a lawsuit against Ryan Garcia for testing positive for a PED is only making things worse for him instead of improving the situation.
Bradley says Haney is wasting his money and his time by suing Ryan (23-1, 20 KOs) over their 20th fight, which he lost by a 12-round majority decision in Brooklyn, New York. People won’t want to work with Haney after this, and it will be the downfall of his career. Burn, baby, burn!
Former two-division world champion Haney’s value has already plummeted since his loss, but things could be worse if promoters and their fighters treat him like a leper, seeing him as litigious and unable to handle a loss.
Bradley points out that Ryan has already been fined one and a half million dollars and suspended for a year by the New York State Athletic Commission for testing positive for Ostarine.
It’s already working against him, with Ryan saying he’s not going to give him a rematch. So, unless he changes his mind, this is a big payday Haney is missing out on because of his lawsuit. This puts more pressure on Haney to win because if they don’t, there will be no Ryan rematch and being treated like he has the plague by fighters and their promoters.
“It’s the softest (stuff) I’ve ever seen in my life,” Tim Bradley said Probox TV about Devin Haney’s lawsuit against Ryan Garcia. “Who’s going to want to fight you and give you that payday? The kickback was the million dollars they took from him.
“The million and a half dollars they took from him, and then the year suspension. The year off. That’s what they gave him, and they felt it was fair,” Bradley said of the New York Athletic Commission’s fine and one-year suspension of Ryan for testing positive for the banned PED Ostarine.
“Let’s go forward. Let us not continue to live in the past. Now, Haney is bringing it back. I don’t understand it. Haney, you’re wasting your time. You are wasting your money. You are wasting other opportunities. Everyone looks at you like you’re crazy,” Bradley said.
Fans look at Haney like he’s mentally weak for choosing to sue rather than focus on getting it back with a rematch. In an interview Haney gave to Ariel Helwani, he indicated that he would make Ryan pay and then get a rematch. He might find out that he got things wrong with his planning.
“Haney, you were in the fight. You fought the wrong game plan, but now you want to sue. It makes no sense.
“Ryan Garcia didn’t really train (for the Haney fight). He was overweight. I was told, ‘He was about 17, 20 pounds overweight that Monday before the fight. He didn’t want to put on the weight, Tim. But he did what he had to do and got down to 143 pounds, he got on the scale, and he gave up the money like he said he was,’” Bradley said.
Ryan looked big the week of the fight as if he hadn’t cut enough weight during camp and would have trouble getting to 140. It’s not surprising that Ryan missed weight by 3.5 lbs because he didn’t look like it. trained hard in the last two weeks. Maybe Ryan thought he was going to lose and figured it wasn’t worth putting himself through torture to lose the weight needed.
“Haney makes it worse and worse for himself. People are not going to support him and be behind him. He just needs to take this booing that he got and take it like a man and move on, Haney,” Bradley said.
Many fans believe Haney is hurting his career badly with this move, which, if he wins, may not bring the kind of money he thinks it will. Losing the rematch money is probably far worse for Haney, and being shunned won’t get him anywhere. He may kick himself later in life, wracked with regret.
