Devin Haney calls Shakur Stevenson the greatest fight in boxing

Devin Haney took to social media on Tuesday to reignite talk of a long-discussed showdown with Shakur Stevenson, calling it the “biggest fight in boxing” and detailing a loose wish list that also includes Keyshawn Davis.

Haney said he wants Stevenson first, followed by Davis, which leans into the language of familiarity rather than rivalry.

Stevenson and Davis have known each other since their amateur days and often refer to each other as brothers, which helps explain Haney’s “little brother then big brother” comment and the order in which he mentioned them.

“Shakur and I are the next biggest fight in boxing! I want him and Keyshawn. Little brother then big brother!” Haney wrote X.

“I’m also good with big brother (Keyshawn) first,” Haney said.

Any serious move to a Stevenson fight will likely come with conditions. Haney recently demanded a rehydration clause in talks with Conor Benn, and that same demand will almost certainly be part of negotiations here. Agreeing to that would put the fight on a contract level and indicate how much control Haney intends to maintain if the fight ever goes through.

There is also a clear business risk involved. Fighting Stevenson means taking on a tough opponent in a fight that may not guarantee the same payday as a second fight with Ryan Garcia.

A loss to Stevenson wouldn’t end Haney’s position, but it would complicate his leverage and slow the path back to a major rematch. Unless Devin is going to receive a massive payday, it’s not worth the risk to fight Shakur.

We’ve seen how he tends to minimize his opponent’s offense by moving around the ring, making it look ugly. Stevenson can do that against Haney and turn his strikeout output down to a trickle. Shakur wouldn’t land much either, but he’s good at winning these types of fights. Devin isn’t used to that type of fighting.
