Details are emerging about Messi’s offer to Juan Soto

The Soto sweepstakes mimicked a movie this offseason with a rollercoaster of events.

Rumors are swirling around Soto about what team he will sign with and for how much.

Teams involved in negotiations with Soto include the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays.

While rumors previously thought Soto would be offered in the $600 million range, things have changed again.

As reported by Dan Bartels of the New York Post at X, the Mets have offered Soto a 15-year contract worth $700 million per Adrian Mendoza.

The Mets reside in the same state as the Yankees, but they have 25 fewer World Series titles than their in-state rivals.

After falling one series short of the 2024 World Series, the Mets are aiming for the 2025 World Series.

The Mets are trying to sign one of the Yankees’ best players in Soto and keep him in New York State.

Soto played his first season with the Yankees in 2024 and batted .288 with 41 home runs, 109 RBI and a .989 OPS.

He’s a generational talent, and the bigs can clearly see that, as he’s reportedly been offered a $700 million, 15-year contract that ties Shohei Ohtani’s deal with the Dodgers last year.

It will be interesting to see if this is Soto’s last sweep of the lottery, or if another team is poised to raise the bar even further to a record number.

With Soto expected to sign within the next week, the last stretch could be interesting.
