It was a good round and a ruthlessly but Rory Mcilroy says it could have been much better.
Mcilroy shot a fourth under 68 Saturday at K Club and is now in quarrel to search for his second title Irish Open, as he will go to four blows Sunday after the leader of 54 holes Adrien Saddier.
“I was walking out of the 18th Green, I said Harry this is probably the most irritating round with four sub-par-paid golf I played within a while,” Mcilroy said on Saturday. “I had a lot of chances. She became bold in the end. I felt like I was giving myself a lot of chances, I hit some good blows that didn’t come in. There was a beautiful one who fell into 14 years old.
“I feel like all day I was just trying to keep myself in a close position with the directions. I feel like I can be some shots better, but generally still in a good position going tomorrow.”
Mcilroy made birds at 4 and 5, added another to 14 and did the last to the 18th, the third time he caught that hole this week.
He made four Bogeys and opened at 71 Thursday, though he still will not make a scam in his last two rounds. He shot 66 on Friday to throw back on the manager’s board and stayed within the striking distance after his Saturday round.
“I felt like I hit him well,” he said. “I hit him well from my finger. But, yes, the wind caught me a few times. Whenever it was, I think what is difficult is also that the greens are so soft, so you are trying to get balls out of the air, so they don’t rotate so much that it won’t get me. Tomorrow, I hope I will be there. “
Mcilroy won Irish Open in 2016, but has not yet won another. He is still looking for his first victory since the end Grand Slam career in masters in April. He also has another important event he is preparing for later this month – winning a away Ryder cup in New York.
But for now, he is focused on a round more in Ireland.
“If I can go to a quick start tomorrow and put some pressure on the boys after, I hope I will be in nine in the back of the quarrel,” he said.
