Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali played a key role in the Blues signing Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk 18 months ago.

Heavily linked at the time with a move to Arsenal, 23-year-old Mudryk ended up at the Blue London side after Chelsea agreed a worthwhile deal with Shakhtar. 88.5 million pounds.

Despite arriving at Stamford Bridge as one of the club’s most expensive signings, the Ukraine international has not lived up to expectations.

Widely regarded as the most disappointing big-money signing in recent Premier League history, Mudryk’s confidence has sunk to an all-time low.

Enzo Maresca focuses on “inconsistency” Mykhailo Mudryk

Manager Enzo Maresca, who succeeded Mauricio Pochettino at the start of the summer, recently spoke about the 23-year-old’s inconsistencies and urged him to improve his final third decision.

“Since he joined the club he had good times and then bad times.” said the Italian Chelsea F.C.

“When he has the ball you don’t know what you’re going to get, it’s one thing or the other. This is Misha. When he is more consistent he can take a step forward.

“We’ll try to help him change. He’s got to understand we’re going to get him the ball in the final third. When he’s there, he’s got to make the right decision.”

Given Maresca’s rating, it wasn’t much of a surprise to see Mudryk appears as a transfer target for Marseille. Roberto De Zerbi has a history of praising the Ukrainian winger, believing he has the potential to one day win the prestigious Ballon d’Or.

The winger still has fans above Chelsea

However, while Maresca may be willing to offload his struggling No.10, Eghbali is less keen to see his star man leave, if only temporarily.

according to talkSPORTthe Iranian-American businessman has been the 23-year-old’s biggest supporter and is “desperate” for him to “do well” amid his worrying form struggles.

In Mudryk’s first 22 months at Stamford Bridge, he has managed just seven goals in 63 appearances.

The winger’s appalling figures mean Chelsea have paid a remarkable £12.6m per goal. Truly amazing stats for a player who was so highly regarded before his mammoth transfer early last year.
