Reports from the UK suggest that Deontay Wilder is headed for an April 2026 fight with Derek Chisora, with Brunch Box indicating that the battle is aligned on British soil. A formal announcement is expected soon, with a London press conference already being discussed behind the scenes.
The pairing raises immediate questions, mainly because Wilder has been hovering around a very different option for the past year. Oleksandr Usyk has repeatedly said he wants Wilder in the United States, and the WBC has already cleared the champion to make a voluntary defense.

Why Wilder’s direction feels unresolved
Wilder is now 40, and his recent form explains why his matchups have narrowed. Since the second Fury fight, he has just two wins from six outings. He lost a points battle to Joseph Parker, was stopped hard by Zhilei Zhang in 2024, then quietly bounced back with a mid-round stoppage of Tyrell Herndon on a low-profile Kansas card.
The right hand remains dangerous. The problem is delivery. His set-ups became simpler, his foot positioning less reliable, and opponents with patience found ways to step off the line and reset before he could charge.
Chisora’s farewell quest meets reality
Chisora, at 42, has been open about wanting one last fight to end his career. He has been talking about reaching number 50 for more than a year, and his last outing, a win over Otto Wallin in Manchester early in 2025, reflected stamina and grit rather than control over distance.
He still comes forward. He still leans into altercations. What he no longer does is force opponents to fight against his speed unless they agree to it.
The options that pass both men
Usyk sees Wilder as the last heavyweight of his era worth marking down after Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. Chisora, meanwhile, has been linked with a title opportunity of his own, with WBO champion Fabio Wardley openly open to making his first defense against a fellow Briton.
A wilder Chisora fight will sell out in the UK. Fans will watch and so will I.
