Deontay Wilder stands on Tyrrell Anthony Herndon on June 27 in Wichita, Kansas

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder returns to the ring against Tyrrell Anthony Herndon (25-5, 15 COs) in a battle at this summer level on June 27 in the Charles Koch Arena, Wichita, Kansas.

It’s a must-win battle for the 39-year-old Wilder for losing his last two fights and four out of his last five since 2020. ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder (43-4-1, 42 food) looked tremendous in his last two fights, afraid to throw his right hand.

A must-win

Deontay is likely to choose to step down if he loses against Herndon because it is the type of opponent he should be able to beat fairly easily if he pushes. However, with the timid way in which Wilder has fought in 2020 since his loss of Tyson Fury, he can also lose this battle. The defeat made the most of the Olympic bronze medalist in 2008.

Herndon, 37, is a ten -year -old Pro who was knocked out in two rounds in his fight against Richard Torrez on October 14, 2023. It is the only notable fighter on Herndon’s resume, and he was blown out of the water. Torrez made it look easily and destroyed Herndon.

He is a much more aggressive fighter than wilder at this stage of his career. If Wilder could fight like Torrez, he might not have lost any of his fights for the past four years.

For Deontay’s struggle to be staged in Kansas, it is a reasonable decline of the Las Vegas rooms with which he fought in his best years of his career. It shows how far his career has decreased because of his repeated defeats and poor performances since 2020.

Ideally, if Wilder can join three or four wins over tomato cans, he can put himself in a world title shot situation, and may be happy to keep the belt for the tape by now. I don’t see it, but it’s possible. Deontay still has the punching power, but his courage seems to have left his body completely.
