The Major League Baseball offseason has been heating up and getting a lot of attention in the baseball world lately.
While the offseason has been great so far, baseball was hit with some devastating news over the weekend.
MLB legend and Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson died over the weekend after losing his battle with pneumonia.
Many athletes have expressed their feelings about Henderson’s death, with NFL legend Deion Sanders being the latest to post on social media about Henderson’s death.
Sanders revealed that Henderson was not only his baseball hero, but he answered every time Sanders called him.
Henderson played 25 seasons in the MLB, first coming in 1979 with the Oakland Athletics and last in 2003 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Many know Henderson as the “Stolen Base King” as he finished his career with 1,406 stolen bases.
Henderson’s career numbers include 3,081 games, 3,055 hits, 297 home runs, 1,115 RBI, 1,406 stolen bases and an .820 OPS.
Many famous athletes have expressed how sad they were to hear of Henderson’s death, but many may not have known how close Henderson and Sanders were.
Henderson played for nine different teams during his MLB career, including the Athletics, Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Los Angeles Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, and New York Yankees.
The stolen base king had over 100 stolen bases in three different seasons in his career and will be greatly missed by the entire baseball world.
