De Los Santos KOs Chavez in Round One

Edwin De Los Santos scored a lightning fast first round knockout of Eliot Chavez in a lightweight bout in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic last Saturday night.

After two years of inactivity, De Los Santos stalked Chavez around the ring at the opening bell and absorbed a few shots as he tried to land his right hand.

De Los Santos backed Chavez up against the ropes and dropped him with a clean right hook to the head.

Chavez initially fell to his back, rolled, and the fight was immediately stopped. The time on the clock was 2:20 in round one.

Chavez’s corner motioned for him not to continue. He took a big shot from De Los Santos, and it would have been a bad idea for him to get up and rematch in that condition.

Before last night, De Los Santos had not fought since his loss to Shakur Stevenson in 2023. It was the infamous fight in which Shakur moved all night and avoided taking on the heavy hitting De Los Santos.

Given the power De Los Santos showed against Chavez, it’s understandable why Stevenson chose to stay on the move for 12 rounds and was booed loudly by the Las Vegas crowd.

De Los Santos hits too hard for fighters to stand in the pocket and engage. Chavez tried briefly last night, but was promptly taken out with a right hook from Edwin.

With the win, the 26-year-old De Los Santos’ record is now 17-0 with 15 knockouts. Chavez’s record drops to 12-8-1 with 7 knockouts.

Last Saturday’s fight went down at the Coliseo de Boxo Carlos ‘TEO’ Cruz in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
