Promoter Oscar De La Hoya revealed today that he will sue Ryan Garcia if Golden Boy Promotions is not included in his eight-round exhibition fight against Rukiya Anpo on December 30th in Tokyo, Japan.
De La Hoya said that Ryan negotiated a deal behind his back for the exhibition match against Anpo, and he can’t do that because he has “global rights” to his fights. He says he wants Ryan (26) to make money, but he has to stick to the contract he has with Golden Boy.
December Bout Uncertain
It is unclear whether the organizers of the eight-round exhibition bout between Ryan and Anpo will work out a deal with Golden Boy to include them in order for the December 30th bout to take place. Ryan wanted to get a payday and stay sharp until his one-year suspension ends in April 2025.
“I’m not sure if you saw the press conference for the upcoming exhibition between Ryan Garcia and Rukiya Anpo because Ryan’s team thought they could negotiate a deal behind my back,” Oscar De La Hoya said on his Clap back Thursdaysand talks about why he’s blocking Ryan Garcia’s eight-round exhibition bout against Rukiya Anpo on December 30.
“Everyone is aware that I have the world rights to Ryan Garcia’s fights. So what the heck? When you sign a contract it means it’s legally binding and it means you have to play by the rules or risk being sued, which is unfortunately what we have to do if Golden Boy isn’t included in the fight .
“To any person who says I’m trying to stop this fight, you’re stupid. I want Ryan to make money. I want him to fight, but I demand that he honor his contract. Let’s say you started a business. Will you, as an honor, let things slide and give certain people a slide and certain people a pass. No, you wouldn’t, and neither would I,” De La Hoya said.
