Davide Brivio says Valentino Rossi would not have celebrated a third-place finish as a track house.

However, the MotoGP team manager, David BrivioHe explained that this is the difference between the ‘great riders’ and the ordinary riders in MotoGP.

During his career, he worked with the likes of Brivio Valentino RossiGeorge Lorenzo, Joan Mir and Raul Fernandez at Yamaha, Suzuki and Trackhouse.

However, Brivio admitted he was ‘laughing’ at his fellow Trackhouse riders celebrating a third-place finish in the Grand Prix.

The Italian recalled his time working with Rossi at Yamaha and how not winning was a ‘disaster’ compared to the celebration some riders get when they finish third.

Brivio said: “Most of the riders, now in MotoGP, are also very talented. But the talent is probably the starting point. Of course, if you don’t have the talent, well, it’s hard to even start, but the talent is not enough.”

“What I see is hard work, motivation, not giving up, things like that. So this is great, I mean, Valentino Rossi or the great riders won’t let the victory go away, because okay, I can finish second or I can finish third.

“I remember some Sunday nights with Valentino, after I finished second, nobody seemed to say at the dinner party, you know, this is like a disaster. You know that kind of thing, but it was second place. Now, sometimes he laughs when we take the picture for P3 on pit road.

You know, so the difference is, the hard work, the motivation, but it’s the same in every sport.

As mentioned earlier, it was Brivio Yamaha Team manager between 2008 and 2010 when Rossi and Lorenzo were teammates at the Japanese manufacturer.

During their time as teammates Rossi and Lorenzo developed a deep rivalry as they battled each other for the MotoGP title and collided on track on several occasions.

Brivio recalled the race when Rossi beat Lorenzo and Rossi’s garage side managed to insult Lorenzo. They held meetings to ease the conflict between the two knights. However, he emphasized that he hopes teammate rivalry will continue to be a big factor in MotoGP.

Brivio said, “The garage celebrated, and Lorenzo’s team took it as an insult, thinking they were celebrating Jorge’s win in a special way. In fact, Rossi’s technicians would have done the same with any rider. Meetings followed to clarify and explain things. It was a big problem, but I hope it happens again.”
