Former World Champion of Two Divisions, David Morrell (11-1, 9 COs), will encounter unbeaten light heavyweight contender Imam Khataev (10-0, 9 COs) on the 12th of July magazine card, Live on dazn In New York City.
Morrell against Khataev will be on the bottom map. It is unknown who will be in the main event. The 2020 Olympic Khataev (30) is on 175 on #6 IBF and #7 WBC. It could be the best battle on the map if Morrell chooses to stand and snail with Khaev.
Cuban talent Morrell is probably the most difficult puncher in the 175 pound division, and has the power to strike the flat foot Khataev if he chooses to snail. Morrell has the boxing skills at Outbox Khataev, but he will have to move a lot. If his goal is to surpass the other notable names on the 12th map of July 12, Morrell must stand on his ground.
The only notable fighters he faces are Ricards Bolotniks and Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna. Khataev both knocked out, but looked slow, blocky and muscle -bound. In the 2020 Olympics, Khataev Limited looked and lost to Ben Whittaker by a three-round decision.
Morrell, #2 WBA, #2 WBC, and #3 WBO, will come to David Banavidez in a competitive battle in Las Vegas on February 1 of a unanimous decision loss of 12 round. Morrell, 27, made a mistake by waiting until the last two rounds to start succeeding with benavidez.
When he finally did, he had great success, landed big shots and dropped benavidez in the 11th round. Morrell will have to fight aggressively against Khataev, because he will push himself uninterrupted throughout the fight. If Morrell tries to box, he may lose a decision to Khataev.
It seems that Morrell-Khataev battle will be buried deep on July 12th. It’s a shame, but the most popular fighters are going to get higher slots on the map.
Khataev arrived last month against a grueling unanimous decision of 10 round against Durval Elias Palaci on March 22. He took a lot of punishment in the process of beating Palaci.
