Sergio Mora says he sees David Banavidez as the new ‘Face of Boxing’ now, after Canelo Alvarez was beaten by Terence Crawford this past weekend. Mora points out that benavidez (30-0, 24 kos) is at 28 young and does not show signs of ring clothes, and that he has the size, speed and power to be the next face of the sport.
In Benavidez’s last two fights, he impressed a first David Morrell and former WBC lightweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk and won a few unanimous 12 round decisions. He didn’t run around in the ring as Crawford did against Canelo, making it look ugly.
‘The Mexican Monster’ Benavidez protruded both fighters, and it wasn’t easy. He was still willing to stay in the trenches and deal with Morrell and Gvozdyk.
Mora ointment boxing’s new king
“David benavidez. He is 28 years old and shows no signs of wear and tear. He is an exciting fighter, ‘The Mexican Monster,’ ‘says Sergio Mora on Chris Mannix’s channel When asked who was the next ‘face of boxing’ to Terence Crawford. “I think he can be the next man for a long time.”
Mora shook his head when Mannix said that Crawford was currently the ‘face of boxing’ after his victory over Canelo Alvarez. He made it clear that he did not regard Terence as the new ‘face’ after the victory. He can be right.
The criteria for boxing’s top star
To become the ‘face of box’ that carries the sport requires more than defeating the previous one. It requires these things:
- Stay active: Banavidez beat Crawford in this department. ‘The Mexican monster’ is fighting twice a year, while Crawford has been fighting annually since 2020 annually.
- The best fight: Not cherries that pick older fighters when they become vulnerable, and torn apart by car accidents.
- With an All-Action style: We have seen Crawford use a lot of movement in his fight against Canelo and Israil Madrimov, who both made competitions dull. In contrast, on February 1, 2025, Benavidez came to David Morrell with a war against David Morrell. For that he had an equally entertaining battle against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15 last year.
“He has the perfect mix of speed and power. It’s so rare, especially from that height of 6’2, and he has long arms. He’s really a monster. I don’t see anyone hitting him. So, Benavidez is the future,” Mora said.
A collision course with betterbiev
If there is a doubt that benavidez has taken over as the ‘face of box’, he will erase it if he defeats Artur Betterbiev and whether Dmitri Bivolol. Benavidez defends his WBC light heavyweight title against Anthony Yarde on November 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
If he wins the fight, a collision against Betterbiev is a possibility. Former 175 pounds, Betterbiev, is fighting on the Benavidez-Yeries undercard against Deon Nicholson. There is already talk of Betterbiev and benavidez who fight next when they win their fights on November 22.
