Dave Allen takes a step in class against former heavyweight contender Arslanbek Makhmudov (20-2, 19 COs) in the 12-round main event on Saturday, October 11 at the Sheffield Arena in Sheffield, England.
Allen, 33, looks significant slimmer for this fight than he did in his last two games against Johnny Fisher. Whether it helps him against the big punching 6’5 1/2 ā³ Makhmudov is hard to know.
Power Edge clearly with Makhmudov
Losing weight may not be enough for Allen (24-7-2, 19 COs) to take up the big bumps of the Russian Slugger. If Dave starts slowly on Saturday night, Makhmudov is likely to hit him in three rounds. Allen is a too basic fighter to stand up to the big shots with which Makhmudov is going to club him.
The inside on which Allen depends on the rabbit stems will not work against Makhmudov. He is dangerous and will be more than play if it is Allen’s approach.

Wilder Talk: hype or real possibility?
The match promoter Eddie Hearn has the idea of āāAllen Fighting Deontay Wilder next when he comes through the Saturday’s competition with a win. It is doubtful whether Hearn can actually deliver that battle, because the 39-year-old Wilder who is badly faded probably wants a lot of money to take a risky battle.
Even if Hearn can get that battle for Allen, what wins a win over the one-armed Deontay? The mighty right hand that “the bronze bomber” once had is now gone due to shoulder problems, and his punching resistance is no longer there. His confidence disappeared after his two losses to Tyson Fury and a bad defeat against Zhilei Zhang.
Any victory for Allen would be over Wilder strict superficial. The battle would only do business to carry the bags of Allen at the expense of the British public. If Hearn wants to do something meaningful to Allen, he will match one of these contenders:
- Lenier but
- Richard Torrez Jr.
- Bakhodir Yalolov
- Philip Hrgovic
- Martin Bakole
“The man in front of him is very dangerous. Arslanbek Makhmudov is not what we thought he was, but he is very good. He is better than Johnny Fisher. He is probably a top -20 heavyweight, and that’s also where Dave Allen sits, ‘says analyst Ade Oladipo on his channel.
“I think internationally I think people have Makhmudov as the favorite. I hear 8,000 in the Sheffield Arena. So people really find out Dave Allen, ‘says Ade.
