
One of the major oddities of baseball is that even though MLB is almost 150 years old and each team plays 162 games a year, you can tune in to any game at any time and see something you’ve never seen before.
Boston Red Sox catcher Danny Jansen is going to give fans something they’ve never seen before on Monday as he looks to make MLB history.
MLB Scoring Changes shared its excitement to learn that Sox manager Alex Cora has announced that Jansen will replace Reece McGuire as McGuire is unavailable for the resumption of Monday’s 6/26 game against the Toronto Blue Jays. on the current roster, meaning Jansen will become the first player in MLB history to play for both teams in the same game.

Jansen will be holding the bat that he started himself when he was with the Blue Jays, and therefore should be hit.
The Red Sox acquired Jansen at the trade deadline and designated McGuire for assignment, and the backup catcher has posted a .718 OPS since being acquired.
Jansen was in Toronto’s lineup on June 26 and was scheduled to throw his first at-bat before the game was called, and was later pushed back to split the doubleheader this Monday.
It’s the catcher Reportedly excited about making history by saying “Thank you for sure. To be honest, when I heard about it, I didn’t think I would be the first. The game has been around for so long. It’s one of the weird things that happens in this sport. It’s extremely rare and cool.”
