His latest stir comes from the back of Oleksandr Ulsyk on Wembley this past July. The Ukrainian ended the case in five rounds, stripped Dubois of his IBF title and left more questions than answers. And if the chat of the week is about his family offering a party rather than about sharp sparring sessions, it’s not hard to see why critics keep circling.
A heavyweight that treats trainers like parts
The Merry-Go-Round goes as follows: Shane McGuigan, Martin Bowers, Don Charles, and now Tony Sims. Four trainers in an eight -year career, but the right stat has been four trainers since 2020. Fighters who exchange trainers rarely shout “consistency.” The explanation is always the same – “a new chapter” or “different energy” – but the problems appear on Fight Night, unchanged.
Tony Sims has pedigree. He was around the block, Anthony Joshua brought an IBF title and gave direction to fighters needed to rebuild. But here’s the turn: Sims usually works with match fighters, while Dubois remains a Queensberry man. It is not a natural marriage, and it may not last long.
Don Charles delivered victories that Dubois pretends to never happen
