Defending IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois shocked the world when he landed a devastating counter right hand that knocked out former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) in the fifth round.
In front of a crowd of 96,000 at Wembley Stadium in London, Daniel Dubois was making his first title defense and he produced the most dominant performance of his career. Dubois was in control from start to finish, and due to his impressive performance, the IBF champion officially put the rest of the division on alert.
Dubois started out extremely aggressive as he quickly jabbed inside and hit Joshua with hard power punches. As the opening round drew to a close, Joshua landed a solid uppercut, but then Dubois landed a devastating overhand right that sent Joshua crashing to the canvas.
Joshua was able to get up, and as the referee continued to count, the bell rang to officially end the round. At the start of the second round, Dubois hit Joshua with a flurry of punches, but as the second round progressed, Dubois’ punching output decreased.
Dubois re-energized at the start of the third as he continued to push forward and land powerful shots. In the final seconds of the third round, Dubois connected with a flurry of punches, sending Joshua back to the canvas.
After surviving the third round, Joshua went down for a third time in the first seconds of the fourth round. Throughout the remainder of the fourth, Dubois continued to push forward and land powerful punches.
In the fifth round of the IBF heavyweight championship fight, Anthony Joshua finally fought off the front foot as he hurt Dubois when he landed some hard right hands. As Joshua stepped forward to continue his attack, Dubois knocked Joshua out when he landed a vicious counter right hand.
A devastated Eddie Hearn sat in the back as he watched his promotional rival’s fighter dominate his top heavyweight. Queensberry Promotions Frank Warren was extremely proud of his fighter as they embarked on this boxing journey together.
The 27-year-old Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) admits the victory over Anthony Joshua is the biggest victory of his career. That’s true for now, but the biggest win of his career could come in the first quarter of 2025 when he fights the Usyk-Fury winner for the undisputed heavyweight crown.
