New York-Burating his head on his towel, a banged-up Ben Shelton Wipe the tears.
Sixth Seed Shelton arrived in New York with high hopes and departed with emotional anxiety today.
A strained left shoulder forced Shelton to withdraw from his third -round match in the US Open against the French veteran Adrian Mannarino After throwing the fourth set at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Mannarino with his left hand, which gave the world No.1 Jannik Sinner a harsh test in Cincinnati this month, moves to the fourth round with a 3-6, 6-3, 4-4 victory, 6-4, retired to advance in his first fourth round.

In his 15th Flusing Meadows appearance, 37-year-old Mannarino is the second oldest man a girl US US Open Round the fourth round after Ivo Karlovic, who was 37 years old six months when he reached the 16th round in 2016.
Walking back to trial after the bathroom break, Mannarino was greeted by Shelton, who shook his hand and closed the curtain in the open US.
“I’m trying, I’m 37 and it’s my first time winning a match from the toilet, so that’s how new things appear,” Mannarino said. “I’m still enjoying my time in court and I hope I can extend it for a while.”
Mannarino will face Be there foot for a quarterfinal place. The 20th beaten Raphael Collingnon Lehecka, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the Grandstand.
It is a devastating end to the champion of Toronto Shelton, who along with Taylor Fritz gave the United States the two best seeds in US Open for the first time since 2007 when no. 5 Andy Roddick and No. 6 James Blake led the American charge.
The SH.BA 2023 Shelton’s open sixthinist began to suffer shoulder pain earlier in the match. Shelton fought by courageously fighting five points located at the end of the fourth set while Louis Armstrong Stadium fans raised in approval.
By shortening the points by attacking relentless net, Shelton came up with some points of places.
Shelton saved the fifth point with a winner of the shots, but he was bending over and shaking and shaking his shoulder.
At the sixth point, Shelton tried to approach a Bluff chip, but Mannarino fired a backward passing that recoiled America’s blue racuet to grab the fourth set and force a decision -making after just more than three hours of play.
The 37-year-old Mannarino left the court for a bathroom vacation, while a painful shelton was again advised with the coach. Father and coach Bryan Shelton, seeing his son fighting in pain from the training box, made a “no” gesture with his hands.

Drawing the open US towel over his head, a detached shellon withdrew from the court seemed like a man whose dream was broken immediately before his eyes.
“When he started having pain, he was leading the match,” Mannarino said. “Honestly, he would probably have won the match; for a pity for him, lucky for me.
“I really don’t know what to say now. I wish him the best of course. I was having fun in court. There were really long rallies. I was losing some of them, winning some of them, but I think it was a cute match to play.”
It was Mannarino’s third victory in four meetings against Shelton. Mannarino Edged Shelton, 7-6 (4), 1-6, 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4 in a third round epic triumph 2024 Australian Open.
The French veteran, whose beard has returned almost completely gray, knew he was facing another version of 22-year-old Shelton today. Shelton had won 11 of his last 12 games, including a 6-2, 6-3 win over Mannarino in Canada on the way to his ATP 1000 girls championship in Toronto.
“Ben is playing really well. He hit my donkey in early summer,” Mannarino said. “It was a great match even if I was lost. It was a pretty cute match.”
