Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is under the toughest scrutiny at the moment but hopes the January signing of a tall defender will help ease the pressure on himself and the Eagles squad.
While their 15 goals conceded this season in the Premier League is the best defensive record of the last seven clubs, their output of just eight goals is the second worst in the entire division.

As a result of his poor form, it has already been suggested that the Austrian he could be replaced by David Moyes.
It has even been suggested by Ian Wright, the former Palace hitman turned respected expert Glasner changed the team’s lineup to get the best out of it.
Clearly something has to change, and while the manager is still in place in January, which would mean owner Steve Parish would keep the faith for at least a few more months, a move for Rav van den Berg of Middlesbrough is a distinct possibility.

The only obstacle to any deal could be his current contract situation.
He has a deal with Boro until the summer of 2027, so Michael Carrick is in no immediate rush to cash in on any of his players, let alone those who are impressing.
However, if the player expresses a desire to play in the English top flight, it could put Boro in a difficult position.
