Cristiano Ronaldo has launched his own personal presence on YouTube, taking his already colossal social media presence to another platform.
Ronaldo has over 900 million followers on Facebook, X and Instagram and is now trying to take YouTube by storm. Like his channel, titled UR Cristianolaunched on Wednesday, it attracted more than six million subscribers that same day.
The “About” section of the channel simply said: “Welcome to UR Cristiano – the official YouTube channel of Cristiano Ronaldo. SUBSCRIBE!”
12 videos were immediately posted, suggesting the projects have been in the works for some time, with views ranging from 400,000 on the low end to over 2.5m.
At the time of writing, the most viewed video is a game of Mr & Mrs between Ronaldo and long-term partner Georgina RodrÃguez. Others include Ronaldo’s assessment of the ten goals he scored for Portugal against Greece at Euro 2024, which looks set to be part of a long-running streak, and a video comparing the free kicks taken by Ronaldo and his son great, Cristianinho. Another one about overcoming adversity is just a clip from a press conference, while Georgina looks set to be a big presence.
All videos so far as a shirt. Several lasted less than a minute and none ran longer than three.
Although popular among American sports stars in the NFL and NBA, YouTube remains a relatively virgin medium in football. Manchester United and England’s Ella Toone launch vlog-style channel in late 2022 as she watches capitalize on its blossoming popularitywhile retired goalkeeper Ben Foster was YouTube’s top footballer, ahead of Ronaldo, with GK Cycling.
As for his career on the pitch, Ronaldo is under contract with Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League until the end of the 2024/25 season. Leaving Europe saw his goal numbers soar again, netting 50 times in 51 games last season, but the veteran striker struggled at a higher level to Portugal at Euro 2024. Ronaldo will celebrate his 40th birthday in early 2025.
