Crawford’s perfect time to face Canelo?

Shawn Porter sees Canelo Alvarez against Terence Crawford as a ’50-50-fight ‘because Alvarez begins to show signs of wear and tear from a long career. Porter considers the timing of the fight as perfect for both fighters.

Crawford gets an exhausted 34-year-old Canelo (62-2-2, 39 COs) to back-to-back sub-parpar performances, while the Mexican gets an opponent who will bring in a lot of money.

The use of Terence as the opponent will help Canelo help generate PPV purchase and money than he has since his second fight against Gennadiy Golovkin on September 15, 2018.

Besides money, it could be another unilateral case for Canelo against a weakened Crawford, who looks elderly in his now victory over Israil Madrimov. If the same Crawford arrives for a fight against Canelo, he will be embarrassed, and the fans will feel stupid for the purchase of the event.

50-50 Fight?

I’m not sure what Porter drives it by saying benavidez is not the status he needs to fight against Canelo. It doesn’t make sense. If John Ryder, Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia were good enough for Canelo to choose them as opponents, deserves Benavidez.

Obviously, the reason why Canelo is considering a fight against 38-year-old Crawford is because Turki Al-Sheikh is willing to pay him a fortune for the match.

Canelo probably assumes that Crawford will be no different than former undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo when he moved up from 154 in 2023 and was too small and weak to win.

Perfect timing

“He’s that guy you can fight people with, no matter who you are in the ring. The same thing with Terence. He is fighting a Canelo Alvarez, who was around the block. A Canelo Alvarez that was in quite a few wars, and I think it’s the perfect timing for both guys, “Porter says.

The timing is ideal for Canelo to fight financially, but not physically. His last two fights against Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia showed that he is not the same fighter as he once was and that he really began to delay. Against Berlanga, Canelo looked bulky and slowly and hit by a fighter, he would have crushed in 2021 and earlier.

The same goes for Alvarez’s fight against Munguia in May. He threw out after four rounds, and the only reason he dominated was how badly the well -protected Munguia was. He could not have leaked, but stayed in it because Canelo was not the same fighter as he had been years before.
