Terence Crawford still insists that he performed a ‘big performance’ in his last fight, and acted against Israel Madrimov until 154, and he felt that what he had shown in victory showed that he was ready to challenge Canelo Alvarez at 168.
Nebraska native Crawford gets a free title against the undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo (63-2-2, 39 COs) on September 13 at the Allegiant Stage in Las Vegas. Crawford is allowed to move two divisions from 154 to 168 for a straight title shot without fighting one of the contenders.
Movement, power did not drive up
Fans feel that Crawford’s victory over WBA junior middleweight champion Madrimov was less convincing, and the doubts about the 38-year-old’s ability to fight at 168 pounds. Terence’s power at 154 did not exist, and he seemed to be five years old from his previous battle against Errol Spence in 2023.
Madrimov has shown that Crawford does not fight at 154 or any weight class higher than that. Terence’s decision not to go through with his purpose of trying to become undeniable against the high -weight highlights that he admitted that he would not be able to achieve it. The champions, Bakhram Murtazaliev and Sebastian Fundora, would be too big, too strong and too young for Crawford.
The movement, hand speed and power that Crawford had in the lower weights did not drive to 154. It will not be at 168 without finding the fountain of youth by September 13. Terence’s reputation is mainly built on his success in the fight against 135 and 140 pounds. The Opposition Crawford fought at 147, and some old, faded champions were fewer fighters. Many fans feel that he is overrated because of his limited resume, barren elite names. It’s hard to argue with it when you look at his real victories.
Crawford rejects the concerns about power
“I thought it was a wonderful show. I thought I was doing what I wanted in the ring. I thought I picked it up when I wanted to. I felt like I was clapping when I wanted, and I got too well. I don’t get anything out of it, ‘says Terence Crawford to Sporting News Australia about his last fight against Israel Madrimov last year in August.
It was not a wonderful performance by Crawford. He knocked Madrimov now and won a close unanimous decision of 12 round by the scores 115-113, 116-112 and 115-113. The battle showed that Crawford did not have the same fighter at 154 that he was in the lower weights, and that he would certainly not be better.
‘Styles make fights. So, Canelo has a different style than Israil Madrimov. We just go from there. Not at all, ‘said Crawford when asked if he noticed a difference in his ability to 154 with his power and to take a shot.
Crawford has never knocked out an elite fighter in their lead during his 17-year professional career. Although Terence Errol Spence and Shawn Porter stopped, both faded versions of their former self, carried from the age, were long careers, weight driving and inactivity. Crawford both fought at the right time.
