Turki Al-Sheikh stopped his efforts to fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford for September. He will now try to compile a Crawford against Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis in 2025.
Mike Coppinger reports that Turki ‘has’suspended attempts ” To get the Canelo-Crawford collision made after Canelo chose to face Jake Paul on May 3. Turki now wants to make the Crawford boots collision this year. The battle is one that Ennis and fans want, but Crawford (41-0, 31 CO’s) was reluctant to take.
Turki’s shift
Coppinger does not say why Turki chose to stop the battle between Crawford and Canelo for September. There are rumors that Turki lost interest in running the Canelo Crawford match because he did not want to host an event that would bring in less PPV numbers in May than the Canelo against Jake Paul event.
Perhaps Terence will now want to fight boots, because the alternatives at 154 are cruel. The division is filled with sharks that will celebrate on an outdated fighter like Crawford.
To make 37-year-old Crawford agree to a fight against the young killer boots that Ennis (33-0, 29 COs) can be difficult for Turki. If Crawford insists on fighting for the payday only, he will not like the idea of a smaller wallet against boots.
All Mayweather -tactics Crawford and his coach Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre plan to use against Canelo will not work against boots. He is good at cutting the ring and has been practicing a lot with his two fights against Karen Chukhadzhian.
Ennis is much more offensive than Madrimov, and he can ruin Terence’s unbeaten record. If he still hopes he can get the Canelo pay day in 2026, boots can spoil that dream.
It is unclear whether Turki will try to negotiate the Canelo against Crawford match in 2026. If he is holding back this year because he does not want to hold a smaller opportunity, fans will still compare the fight, even if it will be pushed in next year.
Crawford is a good fighter, but his popularity and social media are light years under Jake’s. A fight between Terence and Canelo would not come close to what Canelo-Paul would do on PPV.
IBF Welterweight Champion Ennis will fight the WBA champion, Eimantas Stanionis, in a unification by April 12 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. After that fight, Boots is free to face Crawford.
.@Turki_alshikh was told ESPN in the wake of Alvarez’s novelty with ESPN. Alalshikh would rather look to make Crawford “Boots” Ennis later this year. Alalshikh offered …
