Crawford meets a transformed Lomachenko in Bogotá

Terence Crawford and two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasily Lomachenko posed for photos today at the 38th Annual WBO Convention in Bogotá, Colombia. Interestingly, the retired 37-year-old Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) looked almost as big as Crawford in terms of bulk.

Former three-division world champion Lomachenko has packed on some size since his last fight against George Kambosos Jr. on May 12, 2024. Loma looked as good as ever in that fight, dominating Kambosos in an 11th round knockout victory in Perth, Australia.

In today’s photo, Lomachenko can pass for 28. He looks well preserved, as if he has resisted the passage of time.

Crawford sees a new Loma

Although Lomachenko officially retired on June 5, 2025, it is quite possible that he could be lured back if offered a fight that motivates him. He lost his spark to keep fighting, so he hung up his gloves last summer.

Younger, fresher, still dangerous

Loma is younger than the 38-year-old Crawford and showed better form in his last fight against former unified lightweight champion Kambosos than Bud did in his recent win over Canelo Alvarez. One can see that Crawford has lost more of his game due to age and inactivity than Lomachenko.

Turki’s Dream Return Fight?

Lomachenko is still more than young enough to return to the ring if offered the right deal. Turki Alalshikh would do well to bring Loma back for a fight against one of the top fighters, such as Naoya Inoue, Rafael Espinoza, Stephen Fulton or Nick Ball. If Turki wants to bring back a retired fighter, Lomachenko should be a top priority. It will be more interesting to see him in action than to see some of the 40+ year old fighters.

Crawford dethroned undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo, beating him by a 12-round unanimous decision on September 13, 2025 in Las Vegas. Compared to the performance that Lomachenko had against Kambosos Jr. delivered in 2024, Crawford’s victory was not impressive. He didn’t stay in the pocket and fight Canelo like Lomachenko did in his fight with George.
