Terence Crawford today looked heavy and slow in a charged workout of his preparation for his ‘big fight’ against Canelo Alvarez on September 13. The weight on which Crawford (41-0, 31 k’s) packed delayed him, making him look like a 40-year-old OG.
Heavy Crawford: Speed Lost
Bud has to cut off dramatically because in the ten months that he was out of the ring, he has packed too much weight since his close call against Israil Madrimov at 154.
Staying out of the ring and keeping power feeding did not do well. In the cut, Crawford seems to be moving around as if his joints are stiffing due to age and weight. He has the appearance of someone he has long -ly inactive, he has.
Inactivity’s impact on Crawford
Crawford has been fighting annually since 2020. When a fighter only fights once a year for five solid years, their joints have become stiff, and they move around like a tin man needs oil. Terence would have had two fights since August last year.
He reportedly weighed about 186 pounds and negatively affected his hand and foot rate. The way Crawford looks now, he’s not going to be competitive with Canelo on 168 or against any of the top fighters in that weight class. He does not have the frame, speed and power. Unless he’s going to cut off the camp in the last month, it doesn’t look good for Crawford.
It could be one of Canelo’s easiest fighting since his victory over Billy Joe Saunders in 2021.
Crawford’s missed tests
I hope Turki Alalshikh doesn’t get too upset if Crawford is blown out in a unilateral loss against Alvarez. Therefore, it is essential to have a precaution in place to ensure that they can move one or two weight classes. You have that fighter two or three tune-ups at the best in the weight class they move to.
In this way, if they are destroyed, you cancel the plans for the ‘big struggle’. In this case, Turki Crawford should have let these two fighters go before setting up a fight against Canelo:
- David benavidez
- David Morrell
If Crawford refuses to fight against them, you were hands from him and passed to the other notable fighters, preferably the divisions of 168 or 175 pounds.
