Coventry vs Tottenham: preview, predictions and lineups

Tottenham’s 2024/25 trophy hunt begins on Wednesday night when they take on Championship side Coventry in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Ange Postecoglou put his neck on the line after his side’s disappointing north London derby on Sunday, reiterating that his sides “always” win something in their second spell in charge.

Tottenham, however, have made a slow start to the campaign on the points front, picking up just four more Premier League departures Postecoglou’s side have shown signs of progress from a control perspective, but have struggled to create high-quality chances in the final third.

Their unproductive start and the club’s desperation to finally claim silverware makes Wednesday’s game quite important for Postecoglou.

The north Londoners travel to a Coventry side who went into the season hoping for a promotion charge, but their start to the 2024/25 campaign has been equally indifferent. Mark Robins’ side, who came close to reaching the FA Cup final last season, are currently 14th in the championship. A 1-0 win over Oxford United saw them progress to the third round of this competition.

here it is 90 minutes Wednesday preview Carabao Cup tie third round.

Star midfielder Ben Sheaf is a big absence for the home side, but there is hope he will be back in action at the end of the month.

Joel Latibeaudiere picked up a knock during Coventry’s 1-1 draw with Watford at the weekend and is now a doubt for Wednesday’s Cup tie. Robins will also be unable to call on Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Raphael Borges Rodrigues in midweek.

The man responsible for dismissing Coventry in the third round, Brandon Thomas-Asante, could be forced to make an impact off the bench against Spurs.

Coventry predicted line-up against Tottenham (4-5-1): Wilson; Van Ewijk, Binks, Thomas, Bidwell; Allen, Eccles, Mason-Clark, Rudoni, Wright; Sims.

Archie Gray

Tottenham The schedule will be condensed with the start of the Europa League around the corner, but fans would like to see Ange name a pretty strong starting eleven for this domestic cup clash.

Richarlison remains out of the away team and it is not yet known when he will be fit again, while Yves Bissouma is unlikely to play after missing Sunday’s derby.

Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall should make their first starts of the season after shining in pre-season, with Dominic Solanke continuing up front in a bid to catch up after a couple of weeks out.

Tottenham predicted line-up against Coventry (4-3-3): viceroy; Porro, Romero, Dragusin, Davies; Gray, Sarr, Bergvall; Kulusevski, Solanke, Odobert.

This is a great game for Ange. An early exit from the Cup would increase the pressure on the Tottenham manager after a disappointing start to the new season.

Coventry have also started slowly, but they impressed at Vicarage Road on Saturday and should have walked away with all three points. This is a team that should be racing towards the top of the Championship, and their FA Cup antics mean they will certainly not fear their visitors.

While a home win wouldn’t be a complete shock, we’ll back the visitors to get things right in the final third on Wednesday to sail into the fourth round.

Prediction: Coventry 1-3 Tottenham
