Yalemzerf Yehualav, Winfrida Mosetti, Tsegaye Getachev and Filimon Kiplimo in the ranks of Sunday’s race
Yalemzerf Yehualav and Winfrieda Moseti will aim to break Almaz Ayana’s record of 2:17:20 at the TCS Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday (October 20), while Tsegaye Getachev and Filimon Kiplimo will hope to close in on Tamirat Tola’s top 2 finish. :03:38.
Yehualaw, 25, already owns a personal best of 2:17:23, set in Hamburg last year, and the Ethiopian has won the London Marathon in 2022.
He says: “I want to give my best on Sunday and of course I came to win. I’m looking forward to the support of the crowd in Amsterdam.”
Kenyan Moseti, who set a PB of 2:18:25 earlier this year, adds: “The training went well, so I expect a good result.”
With temperatures around 15C and a light southerly breeze making for good marathon conditions, Kiplimo, whose best time is 2:04:56, said: I expect a good result.”
Getachew is probably the favorite in the men’s race, however, given the fact that he won the race in 2022. “Amsterdam changed my life,” he says. “I remember not being able to run the last kilometer but the incredible crowd really got me going.
“I’ve raced in Tokyo and Paris, but the Amsterdam course really suits me. I’ve been training well and I have two goals: to win and set a personal best.”
His personal best is 2:04:49.
The event will be shown on Discovery+ and Eurosport and will start at 9am local time at the city’s Olympic Stadium.
