The runaway leader in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking, Nelly Kordawent on a five-game winning streak earlier this season — a surprising burst except for those who have followed her progress over the past several years. The 13-time major winner and two-time major champion — and 2020 Summer Olympics gold medalist — came out of the gate hot on the LPGA Tour, winning during her first pro season at age 20 in the fall of 2018. .
Truth be told, Nelly was destined for sporting greatness, being the daughter of Czech tennis stars Petr Korda and Regina Rajchrtová. That DNA also runs through her LPGA star sister, Jessicaand their brother, Sebastian, a highly ranked tennis professional.
Nelly’s rocking technique is widely thought of as a model of efficiency. On the off chance she misses a green, here’s how she continues that efficiency with a no-nonsense chip swing. Copy her four main moves and card more up and down your next round.
1. Clenched hands
Nelly’s hands stay close to her body through the stroke. Most rec players tend to “push” their hands towards the target. Try to finish with the butt of the club close to your left pocket.
2. Throw it away
Nelly ties his wrists to the back post and unclips them as he comes down, as if he is “throwing” the ball with the club head. This little manual action gives short shots the finesse they need to get close.
3. Stay lean
The string does a great job of maintaining the forward lean established at address, well tracking it as it spins through the ball. Keep your height like Nelly.
4. Match lines
Korda maintains loft on her club by refraining from bending her left wrist, keeping the club’s results relatively parallel to the centerline. Subtle, but very, very effective.
