Richardson Hithins says after defending his IBF Lights Welterweight title on June 14 against #3 selected George Kambosos Jr. If he can’t get the winner of the 2nd May match between Theofimo and Barboza, he says he’s the no. 1 -ranking on subriel Matias will get.

Hitchins doesn’t have much hope of getting a chance for the winner of the Lopez against Barboza Jr. -battle, because there are also larger options available. Theofimo is considered the favorite in that battle, and if he is victorious, he can face Jaron Ennis, Devin Haney of Ryan Garcia. Hitchins would be the last on his list because he is not popular.
Kambosos -choice
Boxing fans on social media question why Hitchins (19-0, 7 COs) fight against Kambosos JR (22-3, 10 COs) instead of his IBF-sheltered Matias (22-2, 22 COs). The little ’emperor’ Kambosos has lost three out of his last five battles since 2022 and fought only once at 140 on March 22, against Jake Whyllie who was not selected.
“After Kamboses I come to Theofimo Lopez or (Arnold) Barboza, and if not, I want (Surbriel) Matias. It is an official amount on his head, and I will show you that he is not on my level,” Richardson Hitchins said XTalk about his hit list.
It seems bad that Hitchins chose to Kambosos Jr. to fight, rather than Matias or one of the other top-rated 140 contenders. Former United Lightweight Champion Kambosos did not do enough to earn a world title, making Hitchins look like he had the cherry pick by fighting him.
Hitchins won the IBF title of 140 pounds last December and beat Liam Paro with a 12-round decision in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Although Hitchins won, it was not the kind of achievement that would create interest in a battle between him and Theofimo Lopez. He had to look much better for him to motivate thee to face him.
