Collin Morikawa has been looking for a new wand seemingly forever, but he might have found one through his friend, Kurt Kitayama.
The two-time major winner has tried no less than half a dozen shooters in just the last 10 monthsbut the one he won with this weekend was a new one TaylorMade Spider Tour X Flow Neck who took out Kitayama’s brother during a friendly match a few weeks ago.
After closing with a 67, in which he took more than 1.6 strokes gained: putting, Morikawa picked up his first win since October 2023 at this weekend’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He found the shot was actually made for Kitayama on Saturday night as he missed putts on the green but still managed a 62 to move into contention.

He then said he would probably be “undecided” on his player for the rest of his career.
“It’s a comfort thing for me. I think I play a lot with my feel and I play with my gut a lot, and unfortunately, it varies a lot,” he said Saturday night.
Morikawa played many different blade players during his careertrying to stick with a TaylorMade TP Soto the past three seasons, but last year, he began experimenting with more hammer throwers. That led him to start the year with a new Spider ZT Black, before switching back to a TaylorMade widebody blade. similar to what Nelly Korda used to win the LPGA season opener.
This was after his debut at the Sony Open and before his next start at the Phoenix Open and when he said he played a match with Kitayama, his brother Daniel and Min Woo Lee at home in Las Vegas. The broad blade and he were not getting along, before he spotted the leaky neck that Spider Daniel was using.
“I was dealing with it, I didn’t do anything. I saw Daniel, his brother, his caddy. I said, ‘Oh, let me try it.’ I tried it maybe on the 13th hole,” Morikawa said Sunday. “It felt really good. I joked that I might have to take that one. Then I spent the rest of the round with just that putter.”

Morikawa said he was withdrawn to that particular shooter because of the “T” rear stretch assist and the unique flow neck as he wanted to feel more of a release through impact.
“It’s kind of a nice placement where it lets it flow a little bit, but there’s not as much toe hang as the neck assumes just because of the look of the hammer,” Morikawa said Saturday.
That weekend before WM, Morikawa said all he did was putt that Spider around and put it in the bag that week and it stayed in the bag at Pebble.
He nailed a 30-foot birdie putt on the 15th and then another 8-footer on the 16th, before using his putt from the green on the 72nd to 2-putt for the clinching birdie to hold on for a one-shot victory over Lee.
He joked that he’s not sure if the pitcher has any consistent power right now — he missed 0.05 shots on the week — but it appears to be his to keep.
“I don’t know if he’ll want it again,” Morikawa said of Kitayama. “He looked at it again this week. I think he’s trying to repeat it maybe with another club or whatever.
“But now it’s mine.”
With the victory, TaylorMade Spider has now won four of the first five events on the PGA Tour this season. Ironically, the last player to win with a blade putter on the PGA Tour, as noted by Alistair Cameron of PGATour.comit was Kitayama in July.
