This is a special NYC edition with Coffee with Larry, recorded via Zoom and produced by Mike Deering/TheShoeAddicts.

Our topics:

  1. Kenya finished in the top three in the men’s and women’s Elite Marathon races, with Benson Kipruto winning the men’s marathon, winning by .02 in 2:08:09. Helen Obiri won the women’s elite marathon with a new CR of 2:19:51.
  2. Kenya has won 35 titles in the New York Marathon, with 18 men’s titles and 17 women’s titles.
  3. Grete Waits holds the record for women’s elite titles with nine, and Bill Rogers has won four at the New York City Marathon.
  4. The weather was near perfect, starting at 48 degrees, and even with the sunny days, the temperature was cool.
  5. Top American performances were led by Joel Raicho in a PB of 2:09:56, a 40 second improvement, and Fiona O’Keefe who finished 4th in 2:22:49.
  6. Full week in New York. Staten Island Running Association’s Legends and Youth Gala on Oct. 29, NYRR’s Rising Star Shoe Distribution for 350 young and accomplished athletes on Oct. 30, and New York’s Elite Athletes Press Room on Oct. 31, where RunBlogRunth interviewed nine athlete honorees. At NYAC! And finally, on Sunday we covered the 54th TCS NYC Marathon from the NYCC booth.

  • Larry Eder has been involved in athletics for 52 years. Larry has experienced sports as an athlete, coach, magazine publisher, and now a journalist and blogger. His first article, about Don Bowden, America’s first 4-minute miler, was published in RW in 1983. Larry has published several magazines on athletics, from USA Track and Field to the American version of Spikes magazine. He currently leads content and marketing development for RunningNetwork, The Shoe Addicts, and RunBlogRun.
