In the past, I knew former heavyweight title Challenger Randall ‘Tex’ Cobb, which was such a funny character with a limited boxing ability. I remember that Cobb was in a clinic with an opponent and said, ‘Let’s get some beers together after this one’!
It was November 6, 1981 in the Civic Arena, Pittsburgh, Dad, with WBC heavyweight champion Larry Holmes defending his title against Renaldo Snipes.
It was a map, including Michael Dokes who defeated George Chuvalo; Jimmy Young defeats Tommy Thomas; James ‘Buster’ Douglas lost to David Bey, and Cobb defeated Bernardo Mercardo.
Cobb walks to the press conference and says something like ‘Look at this, some of the worst N’s in the world, and then his usual laugh!’
Snipes reply ‘After I finish Holmes, you’re next!’ Cobb says, “First of all, you don’t beat Holmes, but we can get it right here!” Snipes sit down without saying another word.
We all know the actions of Tyson Fury during his career without saying. The difference is that he has become a world champion.
