Clayton Keller won the Olympic gold medal. But he also has a golf “claim to fame.”

Clayton Keller just came home with a gold medal as part of the first U.S. Olympic hockey team to claim the top Olympic prize since 1980. But that’s not his only athletic achievement he likes to brag about.

The Utah Mammoth forward has the golf bug. He is a great fantasy golfer and can hold the ball better than most. Keller played in Phoenix as a member of the Coyotes before moving to Utah, and he’s no stranger to pairing it with Subpar co-host Colt Knost.

In fact, Keller beat Knost outright on one occasion.

“Oh yeah, I did it once,” Keller said on the latest episode of GOLF’s below the level when asked if he would ever beat Knost. “That’s my claim to fame. Straight up.”

“Cool. I beat Tiger once,” Knost joked back. “I think you shoot like 68 and I shot 69. That was just devastating.”

Keller played in four games for Team USA in Milan. While the celebration after the gold was memorable, it was the phone call that told him he had made the team that stuck in his mind.

“Yeah, incredible feeling,” Keller said. “Obviously I had been through a lot this year. My dad passed away. Just a lot of emotion. I thought a lot about all the people that sacrificed for me to make that team. Just very grateful to be on that team.”

After defeating Canada to win the gold medal, Team USA returned to New York, but the flight was diverted to Miami due to weather. That’s where the gold medal celebration took off and Pat McAfee picked up the tab.

“Just an incredible time,” Keller said of the party. “We did a quick parade around Miami and there were actually a lot of people cheering us on. Even in our hotel, there were a lot of people chanting ‘USA!’ It was just such a cool experience. I didn’t know what to expect, but it exceeded all expectations.

“Mr. McAfee got the bill. It was a neat bill. Probably the best night I ever had in my life.”
