Chris Algieri argues against the idea that Terence Crawford is making his first defense of his undisputed super -middleweight championship against Dmitri Bivolol.
The retired former world champion Algieri of 140 pounds mentions that the 6’0 ″ Biblical (24-1, 12 COs) would be too long for the 5’9 ″ Crawford (42-0, 31 COs), and “Stylistically” is a bad game for him. Crawford has a three-inch benefit of 75 ″ above Bivol’s 72 ″, so the size would not be the most important problem why he might be too much.
BIVOL’s threatening style
It’s more about Bivol’s style, combination -punch, movement, production and fearlessness. He would not be reluctant to walk through Crawford’s shots to bomb him with termobaric bombs and cause destruction of the blast.
It may not be nice for Terence, but it would be a stress -filled, action -packed struggle. It would probably be more entertaining to look at than last Saturday’s competition between Crawford and Canelo, who did not have drama and was dull for long stretches.
Algieri points out that, unlike the Platvoet Canelo Alvarez, Bisvol is an excellent mover, “fighting on his toes. It would not be the same situation for Terence as for the made order of Platvoet Canelo for him.
The sports thing to do
Algieri adds that “Crawford would never fight a battle he couldn’t win, ‘ excluding that he agrees to fight Bivolution. Yesterday, Crawford rejected a fight against David Banavidez and said he was too big.
This confirms what Algieri says about Crawford who only takes fights that he knows he can win. It doesn’t say much about his risk capacity. It also goes back to Turki Alalshikh. He could have forced Bud to take a risky battle to earn the mega-money superfight against Canelo last Saturday night, rather than giving it on a silver plate after his now disputed victory over Israil Madrimov in 2024.
It would have been the sports case to do. If Crawford had refused a fight against BiVol or Benavidez, Turki would tell him that the Alvarez fight was off the table.
Somehow Crawford would have changed and agreed to fight one or both of these fights if he knew he would miss the mega-million payday against the exhausted, flat-footed Canelo.

With another kind of fighter in the face

I disagree with Algieri. It is not a bad idea for Crawford to fight Biblical. If it was okay for Crawford to fight the shell of the Car-Crash-Wricked Errol Spence in 2023, David Avanesyan, or the past his first Shawn Porter, why wouldn’t it be a good idea to fight Bissvol?
Is it because Crawford wouldn’t be the favorite once and would be against someone who could hit him? Isn’t sports supposed to deal with teams and fighters facing opposition, where they are not expected to win all the time? Why should it be different for Crawford unless his career is smoking and mirrors from the beginning?
“In this era, I’m not going to say that weight classes don’t matter, but we’re coming into a strange smooth slope where we just feed these fights,” Canobbio said.
“Biblical is about him, but also stylistically, the way he moves,” Algieri said, arguing against Crawford who is fighting Bisvol. ‘Canelo is completely flat foot.
