England director Sarina Wiegman admits that Chloe Kelly has not played enough to win -Lionessa’s squad for the next Nations League games.
The young man, 26, has been a main point in the squad of England during the last seasons, famously scoring the winning goal that crowned the European Nation champions under the arch of the Wembley 2022 stadium.
After just starting one of Manchester City Super League Women (WSL) Fixed before Christmas, Kelly completed a day in Arsenal with the intention of “having the best shot to represent my country” at the next euros in Switzerland.
Wiegman has left Kelly out of England’s squad to face both Portugal and Spain in the coming games of the UEFA Nations Nations League.
“He has not played enough in my opinion,” said the main coach. “He has moved clubs now, but he played barely last fall and, as I said, built some credits, but during that time he did less minutes.
“We had a good conversation yesterday and she is not. On the team.”
Kelly, who has not lost a squad in England since returning from his ACL injury in 2022, has told the fans that he is eager to return to creation as soon as possible.
Wiegman emphasized that the attacker needs “starting with Arsenal, setting a few minutes, starting to play and showing what you are and then we can review it again.”
She added: “We all hope you show good performances and have the minutes and again again.”
Before making his loan moving to Arsenal, Kelly expressed his displeasure with Manchester City, telling fans on social media that he had been “dictated to who I can or cannot join -me.” The striker ended: “I just want to be happy again.”
The coach of England responded to Kelly’s statement, saying that he was “hired, he was worried about his mental health.”
“I do not have the complete context, but now I am happy that I had the move, which mentioned that it was very good for her,” said Wiegman. “Hopefully you can smile again on your face, play a little football, and show who you are as a footballer.
In the absence of Kelly, Nikita Parris has been rewarded for his form of firing in recent months at Brighton & Hove Albion, winning his first call to lions since 2022.
Talking about the selection, Wiegman said, “We always see many players. Nikita is going well and is in good shape. He knows what is needed in international football. I want to see -in our environment and I hope he can take this opportunity.”
