Chelsea Women vs Celtic Women: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

Chelsea will be looking to extend their UEFA Women’s Champions League winning streak when they host Celtic at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

The Blues are yet to drop a point in the Champions League so far this season, with three straight wins to top their group standings. A very twisted one Chelsea team were able to get the job done at Celtic Park last week, with a 2-1 win despite conceding the first goal.

Sonia Bompastor has been here before, becoming the first woman to win the Champions League as both a player and manager following her European triumph with Lyon in the 2021/22 season. The French coach will be eager to share this experience with Chelsea, as the Blues look to finally get the European title that eluded the agonizing Emma Hayes.

Newcomers to the tournament, Celtic, put in a brave performance against the incumbent WSL champion last week, and will be eager to build on those bright moments heading into the first leg. However, with Chelsea registering 26 shots against the Scottish outfit, it could have been a case of the Blues not taking their chances, rather than Celtic over-performing.

here it is 90 minutes preview of Wednesday’s matchup.

Bompastor made wholesale changes to his Chelsea team to face Celtic last week, making eight changes to the winning side that beat Liverpool the previous Sunday. The changes had casual effects on performance, with many players struggling to find rhythm in the team.

The Blues boss is very likely to make similar adjustments this time around, but we can expect less experimental changes to ensure Chelsea can assert as much dominance as possible.

Returning from triumphant victory by 2-0 finished Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday that saw them jump to the top of the WSL, Chelsea will certainly come out firing on Wednesday.

Chelsea striker Aggie Beever-Jones will not be fit for the game after being sent off in the first leg last week. Center Kadeisha Buchanan will also be missing after the club confirmed she tore her ACL against Liverpool earlier this month.

Chelsea predicted line-up against Celtic FC (3-4-1-2): Hampton; Perisset, Bright, Bjorn; Lawrence, Cuthbert, John Francois, Baltimore; Captain; Hamano, Macario

Celtic have struggled in Europe so far, and now face their biggest challenge yet as they travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.

Murphy Agnew scored the opener against the Blues at Celtic Park, and will play a key role if the visitors have any hope of breaking down the Chelsea defence. Goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty played a vital role in minimizing the visiting team’s threat last week, and Wednesday evening will demand a strong performance from her again.

Celtic predicted line-up against Chelsea: (4-3-3): Daughter; Lawton, Clark, Hayes, Barclays; McGregor, Ross; Smith, Gallacher, Ashworth-Clifford; Agnew

Despite the tight scoreline in the reverse fixture, Chelsea will be ready to be a more clinical version of themselves at The Bridge. Bompastor’s Blues will be looking to cement their place at the top of Group B, and a home game against Celtic looms as the perfect opportunity to do so.

Prediction: Chelsea 4-0 Celtic
