26:57 The 10km runner has admitted an anti-doping violation after testing positive for the banned substance furosemide.
Barcelona and Lisbon Half Marathon winner Charles Kipkkurui Langat has been disqualified for two years for violating anti-doping rules.
The 28-year-old coach was suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit after testing positive for the banned substance furosemide, which is commonly used as a masking agent.
Langat tested positive in an out-of-competition urine sample on August 6, 2024 in Iten, Kenya.
The Kenyan, who boasts personal bests of 26:57, 45:14 and 58:53 in the 10km, 10mile and half marathon respectively, has admitted to unknowingly taking the banned substance, claiming he was advised against it by a doctor :
Langat stated that he had been suffering from inflammation since September 2023 and then sought medical treatment in the Netherlands in April 2024.

“His illness worsened during his time at the training camp in Iten, Kenya, so on July 31 he contacted a doctor he knew, who, based on his symptoms, advised him to try furosemide for four days to help reduce inflammation. was sick and “to help the kidneys and adrenals,” the HAI said.
“Based on this advice, on August 1, the athlete went to a chemist in Eldoret, Kenya, where he bought furosemide. The athlete used furosemide once a day for four days between August 1 and August 4.”
The AIU added that the Kenyan did not have a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for furosemide, but that his violations “were not intentional.”
“Langat provided supporting medical documentation to support the care provided, but did not provide any documentation or additional information regarding his purchase of furosemide or the exact dosage he used,” the AIU said.
Langat’s ineligibility dates back to September 11, when he was suspended, and his results will be disqualified starting August 6.
