Brandel Chamblee made a blow to one of the best players of Americans – and the best fun – days before 45 Cup Ryder Starts at Bethpage Black in Pharmingdale, NY
Chamblee, Golf Channel’s open analyst, twice called Bryson Dechambeau’s leading champion a “strange duck” and that his unique personality makes him a “captain’s nightmare” for team events like this.
Chamblee’s comments came shortly after Dechambeau spoke to Todd Lewis of Golf Channel to respond to comments that Rory Mcilroy made earlier this week, which were made only after Mcilroy was asked to comment on what Dechambeau said this summer. (Still following?)
INHappy Gilmore 2“Premiere in New York City in July, People Asked Dechambeau for Mcilroy and Ryder Cup, who led to Dechambeau saying: “I will do once in the ear (mcilroy’s) this time. Now, if we go against each other, I mean, you can be sure of it.”
The Guardian’s Ewen Murray met Mcilroy at this year’s tour championship and asked about those comments (part of a long interview published this week) And Mcilroy said, “I think the only way he gets attention is by mentioning other people. This is essentially what I think about it. To get attention he will mention me or scottie (Scheffler) or others.”
Now officially in the country for the Ryder Cup on Monday, was asked about Dechambeau Mcilroy’s rejectionTo which he said, “All I am trying to do is inspire children on YouTube, and we have accumulated a large audience on YouTube and I am continuing to focus on that train of thought, and whatever Rory says and what does not, I would say nothing from it. I am excited.
Chamblee, however, dealt with dechambeau’s comments – and also got a pointed pocket in Dechambeau Audiences on youtube. Although he looked more upset by what Dechambeau NO SAY
“I thought it was very much shown when he (asked) about Rory’s rhetoric, that he did not mention the purpose this week of a Ryder cup,” Chamblee told Golf Channel. “No, he didn’t do it. He didn’t talk about playing in a team and how much that would say. No, he didn’t do it. What he did was talk about his YouTube channel, who, you know, if we want to talk about the numbers generated by him is very dubious.
“One of the reasons I think he will be such a difficult person to pair with him. He is definitely a hell of a golf. He has no doubt his moments of generosity with fans; I have heard of them. But he is a strange duck when he is trying to mix with the team, and he has so many possible board mistakes.
Dechambeau, the only player on the US side by the Liv, a Chamblee League has often criticized, closed the sixth and last place of automatic qualification for the US, an impressive feat as Liv’s events do not offer world ranking points or Ryder Cup. This means that he had to win his way through major championships, and over the past two years he completed 10 balls in six out of eight. This included his second US Open title when he defeated Mcilroy down the alignment to win Open 2024 in Pinehurst No. 2.
Dechambeau, however, has not yet found the same success in a Ryder cup. In his two previous appearances (2018 and 2021) he has compiled a 2-3-1 record, which includes a record 0-2 foursomes.
This fourth record, not to mention Dechambeau’s eccentric personality, is likely that Chamblee’s referral when he says Dechambeau is a captain’s nightmare. The alternative format is complicated, especially as it is important to match things like golf and personality.
“This is a difficult thing for him to get to the boys he does not see every day, full of PGA Tour players, but he has done an extraordinary job to do the extra effort,” US captain Keegan Bradley told Dechambeau on Tuesday. “… he has made every possible effort and has been unbelievable in the team’s room. I think Bryson, only his golf ability is only an X factor for our team, but also, he is a truly fiery player. When you come in a cup of Ryder, you do not want boys to try to be something we do not.”
Ryder Cup’s story lines are hot – and we are still three days away from this starting.
