Jack Catterall works with coach Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis to start practicing in Philadelphia now. This is a strange mating, because Bozy, the father of former Unified Welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, is known to be more offended.
The ‘British Shakur’ problem
That combat style may not work with Catterall, which some call ‘the British Shakur’. Bozy is not a miracle worker, someone who can convert Jack in a magical way into a copy of his son, ‘Boots’ Ennis. If you try to change Catterall, he can break himself as a fighter, because the Stevenson style is so complicated in him.
With Catterall’s lack of power and his Shakur-Esque fighter style, Bozy training may not be the results he needs to become a viable welterweight contender. He may be better off working with Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre so that he could practice side by side with Terence Crawford to mimic his combat style.
Is that a last attempt?
Some consider it a last attempt by Catterall (31-2, 13 COs) to rebuild his career following his recent 12 round defeat against Arnold Barboza Jr. On February 15. Jack didn’t look good in the fight because he was by Barboza jr.
In the last battle of Catterall, he moved up to Welterweight and defeated Harlem Eubank on July 5, 2025 with a seven-round technical unanimous decision. The competition ended when both fighters suffered in seventh place of a clash of heads. At the time of the downtime, Catterall was ahead of 69-66, 69-66 and 69-65.
Catterall’s victories over former champions: Regis Prograis, Josh Taylor and Jorge Linares. He knocked anyone who was still in their lead, and his recent actions against Barboza Jr. And Eubank suggests that he may never do it.
A wide open welterweight field
What Catterall is for him is that the Welterweight section does not have talent, now that Jaron Ennis has moved up to 154. It was the last remaining phenoma. Now that he’s gone. It was usually left on B-level fighters to go to the top spots.
Potential pay days of million dollars
Even if Catterall never wins a world title at Welterweight, he can still earn millions if he can have a chance to fight against some of these fighters:

- Ryan Garcia
- Conor Benn
- Theofimo lopez
The problem is that none of the fighters would probably be interested in fighting Catterall because he tends to hit, hold and move. This is the exact copy of the style that Shakur Stevenson uses, but with a lot more.
