Caroline Dubois pushes back on Baumgardner’s status

Where things got heated was when Baumgardner made a “puppy” reference when he gave the 24-year-old Dubois the brush, letting her know she needed to stay patient to get the fight.

Although Dubois is a champion, she is younger and less well-known than the 31-year-old Baumgarder. For a fight between them to grow, it still needs to marinate.

“I’m focused on this lady here, Leila. She came from Canada,” Alycia Baumgardner said at the final press conference.

“I hear a lot about Alycia being the face of women’s boxing. I 100% disagree with that. I think it’s great that we’re on the same map. You will be able to decide for yourself who is the best,” said Caroline Dubois.

“Baby, I’m the co-main event for a reason,” Baumgardner said. “One thing about a puppy: You have to drain them, and you have to take your time with them puppies.

Caroline seemed upset with Baumgardner’s “puppy” comment and tried to fire some comments back. However, Alycia cut her off, talking over her and letting her know she was a visitor to the US

“So take your time, be patient. Let the big dog do what the big dog does. Eat. You in the USA, baby. It’s not the UK. It’s the USA, baby. We’re going to welcome you very well here in Miami. We’re going to have a good time Friday night, Welcome to the team, baby,” says Baumgardner.

Leila Beaudoin will challenge Baumgardner for her IBF and WBO super featherweight titles in a 10-round bout in the co-main event.

Dubois defends her WBC title against Italy’s Camilla Panatta in a 10-round fight on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs. Jake Paul. This is Dubois’ third defense of her WBC title after being elevated on December 11, 2024.
