Carla Bernat Escuder knows the saying in age:
“Masters don’t start up to nine Sunday.”
She realized that the additions also applied to Augusta women national amateur.
When Bernat Escuder came to Famous Par-4 of the 10th And she lost her green with her second shot, she made sure she would not lose her chance just as the tournament became true.
“As soon as I hit that second blow,” said Bernat Escuder, “I was like,” Oh, I have to collect it and just get this money, and I dig in “, and I think it was key.”
Bernat Escuder made a large principle at 10 to maintain two -stroke leader that she built with birds at 8 and 9 and then was held out Lottie Woad defense champion and a talley growing star to win the Augusta national women’s amateur at 12 under the par.
“I feel over the moon,” Bernat Escuder said on Butler Cabin after round. “For now, I don’t think my brain has elaborated I won.”
The 21-year-old elderly in Kansas State becomes the first female champion from Spain to Augusta National, following the steps of some legendary Spanish champions in Masters Like Jose Maria Olazabal, Sergio Garcia AND Ion Rahm.
She also grew up being trained by Garcia’s father, Victor, since she was 13, a difference she shares with American amateur champion Jose Louis Ballesterwho will pull it into masters this next week.
“I am very grateful for him,” Bernat Escuder said. “He just helped me so much with my golf rhythm and even outside the golf course, he is always there for me. I wish he could be here, but he will be here next week because one of my best friends (Ballester) is playing in masters too.”
Bernat Escuder began the day a blow back to co-leaders Kiarler Romero and the defender of the Lottie Woad champion on eight under.
And while she referred to the old saying about masters who did not start by the end of the nine, Bernat Escuder began to move it shortly before the turn on Saturday, making Birdie in par-5 8 and then using the slope in perfection at 9 to set another and reach 11 under. She then pierced the long pararam of 10 to hold the momentum.
At the same time, Woad, the number 1 player in the world’s amateur golf ranking, was not so lucky in 10 years. After a perfect shot at the left center of the fairway, Woad attracted her tee shot during the left from green and bushes, leading to a point and a double bogey falling to her in eight under.
Talley, the 16-year-old sensation that was a low co-manager at the Open Womens of SH.BA And the contestant in both American and American women’s amateurs last summer was making her move. Talley began the day with a strong eagle in the difficult 1, and then Zogu 16 and 17, the latter thanks to a wonderful salvation from left trees to post 11 under.
Bernat Escuder played strong in nine back, making Birdie on both par-5s, but falling one in 17 after hitting the second in the bunker. At 18, her second went too far, losing the slope and holding in the back green.
Her touch from the upper tear was perfect while she left for about two and a half meters short and made it premature for a last round 68, to maintain the victory with a stroke.
