Carl Fogarty says Pedro Acosta’s sprint success in Thailand ‘shouldn’t be counted as a win’

The Spaniard, who finished second behind Marco Bezecchi in the main event at the Chang International Circuit, went 11 podiums without a Grand Prix win. He is now one shy of matching Colin Edwards’ unsung record.

Officially, first place in the Sprint does not count towards a sprinter’s win. For example, the MotoGP website puts Marquez at 99 wins, which is why he has won 26 of the lower Grand Prix classes.

If Sprint wins were included, that would have been 114. The sport introduced the second competition at the start of the 2023 season.

Acosta is now the only rider on the grid to win a Sprint but not a Grand Prix, fueling the statistical debate.
