So what makes this bag premium and why is it (probably) worthy of your attention?

Is she really premium?

Vessel has a valid claim for creating the premium bag category with its original Player, introduced in 2016. What made it “premium” was that it intentionally brought tour staff bag-level materials, features and details to something you or I could use.

Well, that and the price.

The ship has virtually owned that category for most of the past decade. However, over the past couple of years, we’re seeing everyone from mainstream OEMs to new bag and accessory brands introduce their own versions of a premium base bag. These bags carry many of the same premium features as a shuttle, but at a lower price.

of 1914 Carry™ It got its name from the year Wilson (then known as Ashland Manufacturing) began selling golf accessories. Its first product was, incidentally, a golf bag. Considering the name, you’d expect Wilson to offer some throwback style, but Year 1914 it is 100 percent modern.

Made of weather-resistant synthetic leather (more on that in a minute) with carbon fiber legs and a 7” x 7.5” four-way reinforced microfiber, of 1914 Carry™ controls everything it is a premium bag the boxes. Is five kilograms too heavy for a carry-on bag?

While there are lighter bags out there, we’ve found that the strap system and overall balance of the bag matter just as much as the weight. A well-balanced five-pound bag may be easier to carry than a poorly balanced lightweight bag.

Synthetic leather plays a large role in the overall weight of a premium bag. Nylon bags will be lighter, but synthetic leather is more durable, weatherproof, and much easier to clean than nylon (which is great if you like white bags). Also, depending on your tastes, synthetic leather looks great and feels luxurious.

Some might argue that another word for synthetic leather is “plastic”. This is technically correct, but oversimplified. It is made using polyurethane, but to stack synthetic leather with cheap vinyl or “fabric” is either wrong or overly cynical.

Premium (or, as Wilson calls it, “Tour-Grade) synthetic leather begins with a microfiber or tightly woven polyester backing material. This material actually determines tear strength and long-term durability. Next comes an adhesive layer followed by multiple layers of thin polyurethane. The multiple layers give the material strength and flexibility.

The color is embedded in the layers of polyurethane instead of being painted on.

No, it’s not real leather. If you want real leather, be prepared to spend anywhere from $800 for partial leather construction to over $2,000 for full grain leather.
