Canelo Alvarez: “I’ve already won” before Berlanga Bout

Canelo Alvarez claims that his opponent Edgar Berlanga cannot beat him and that he has already won before their fight on Saturday, September 14, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

It’s understandable why Canelo (61-2-2, 39 KOs) is so sure of victory. He has the talent, experience and boxing IQ to make it an easy fight against undefeated challenger Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) on Saturday night.

Most would agree that Berlanga, 27, needed more spice and was not yet ready to challenge Canelo or face any of the talented contenders. He pushed for the fight, and his promoters at Matchroom obliged.

Berlanga may have understood that he may never have had this chance if he had to fight against the top contenders to gain the necessary experience, as he had many problems in fights against Jason Quigley, Roamier Alexis Angulo, Marcelo Coceres and Steve Rolls .

“No, no chance. The experience that I have, the intelligence, my boxing ability, I have already won, September 14,” Canelo Alvarez told Premier Boxing Champions.

Fans are not surprised that Canelo is confident of winning as he picked out Berlanga and of course tested him before making the choice to ensure he was a safe, beatable choice. If he had doubts, he probably wouldn’t have chosen him.

At this stage of Canelo’s career, he is selective. He no longer fights dangerous opposition like he did years ago when he fought Gennadiy Golovkin and Miguel Cotto.

Canelo will defend his WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight titles against Berlanga live on DAZN PPV. Berlanga is Canelo’s WBA mandatory after beating Padraig McCrory earlier this year in February.

“I see how he throws shots at people’s arms,” said Berlanga. “He started doing that when he started fighting bigger fighters; break the arms off so he can just start connecting in the later rounds. This is his method all the time.”

Canelo didn’t throw many punches on the arms of John Ryder, Jermell Charlo or Jaime Munguia. He mostly threw head shots in those fights.
