Cameron Young seeing an even greater award than PGA Tour’s first victory in Wyndham

Cameron Young There is a command bullet in North Carolina. But he is in a mental state in New York.

“I have a lot of good memories there playing Open New York State,” Young said. “And I’m sure a New York crowd would be at least in my side to some extent.”

Was Saturday late in late at Sedgefield country club In Greensboro, and Young was fresh from a third round 65 that lasted his lead in the Wynham championship. With only 18 holes left, he was five shots in front of his closest follower – and trying not to come before him.

This was difficult to do, given everything in question.

Not only are Young looking for his first PGA Tour victory. He is also capable of a place in a certain competition in September, the one coming to his home state: 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in Long Island.

“I think that location is, first of all, one of my favorite golf courses in the world,” Young said.

Young, who grew up in Westchester County, where his father was a head professional at Sleepy Hollo Golf Club, seemed very comfortable even in Sedgefield. This is not surprising. He played his collegial golf in Wake Forest, just 30 minutes on the street.

But the Ryder Cup in Bethpage is a natural theme for local New Yorker. Also particularly sounding for Young, who sank two years ago when US Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson failed to take it as choosing a captain. Young, who was ninth in the Ryder Cup ranking, was the highest rank player who was not elected for the 2023 team, who lost 16.5-11.5 for Europeans.

Young admitted that he felt abducted.

“That’s too bad to lose it a few years ago,” he said. “I was ninth in the list of points and I wasn’t chosen, so I was a little frustrated by this.”

Young said his goal at the beginning of the 2025 season was “giving our captain no solution”.

“I don’t know if I am in a poosite to do it or not, but it would take a really good golf between now and then,” he said. “But if I am in question, this has been a great goal of mine and I would like to put myself there anyway.”

First things first, Young is trying to remove Wynham, a win that would remove it after seven career contestants and 23 Top 10.

Young is currently the 19th in the Ryder Cup rankings. The top six players qualify automatically, with the six captain’s elections rounding the team. A win on Sunday would surely catch the attention of Captain Keegan Bradley.

But Young said he is not counting anything tomorrow, or beyond. At least, this is the idea.

“I am trying to look only at what I only get all the little things that happen every day as it comes,” he said. “But in the back of my mind I am trying to photograph myself in that team.”
