Callum Smith vs. David Morrell: Is this the battle Smith is afraid to take?

Callum Smith must soon decide whether to agree with the WBO’s mandate for his interim light heavyweight title against the no. 2 -contender, David Morrell, or to evacuate the belt.

Smith’s Morrell mandate: duck or fighting?

If Smith (31-2, 22 COs) waived the title to avoid the dangerous battle against Morrell (12-1, 9 COs), he would lose his golden ticket to a profitable fight against the winner of the Dmitri BiVol vs. To get Artur Bingerbiev 3 Trilogy game.

Some fans believe that if Callum evacuates the WBO to swing Morrell, He will sit and wait For the winner of that struggle, in the hope that they will look in his direction. It is a poor way to get the life-changing money from a collision against the Bivol-Beterbiev III, but that is to work for the place by going through the talented Cuban Morrell.

There would be no other way to look at a different move than to describe it as old -fashioned fear, to grab Smith at the back, which made him avoid Morrell. Smith would hope that the Bivol or Betterbiev fight falls off the air in his lap to allow him to get the mega-million battle passive without having to disappear with the young Morrell, 27, and possibly be beaten.

The WBO ordered Callum to defend its 175 -pound interim title against David Morrell. Their management has until August 20, 2025, of July 21, 2025, to take out an agreement before ordering a wallet bid.

Smith vs. Morrell: Spine or bail?

It is understandable why the WBO decided to order the Smith-Morrell battle. They told it themselves what their rationale is to order the battle and say it is “In promoting the division of active” while Bivol-Beterbiev goes into their trilogy. The WBO wants its 175 -pound (Smith) interim title holder to be active, not just sitting and waiting for his hoped fight against the winner.

Smith’s request for a compulsory shot against the WBO champion Biblical has already been rejected. As such, Callum cannot sit on its back and wait a year or so for his ultimate title. He must defend his WBO title against Morrell or give it up to the young, hungry stuff.

If Smith wants to keep in line, he has to show a little spine and face Morrell. If he is afraid to fight against the Cuban, he will have to give up his placeholder for the mega million title.
