Should not be surprised that Drew Mathers felt the nerves he made late Sunday at Philadelphia Cricket Club. As a caddy of completing the last minute for Sepp StrakaHe had never been in this kind of situation – you know, fighting $ 3.6 million in line.
Straka and Shane Lowry were tied after 54 holes in the Truist Championship, left together in the last pairing and were still tied to three holes to play. But Lowry Bogey two of the last three and Straka made three pars to win the title and seek his second season victory.
Mathers also won big.
“I’ve never experienced to be a caddy on this level,” Mathers PGA Tour told After that. “The last holes of the heartbeat were probably dripped, and that last hole the emotions started shortly after I knew the sepp could both out of 3 meters. I was like,” you got it. “So it was great.”
A Tour Pro Aspiring, Mathers, 26, is currently playing mini tour events and is preparing for the Q-School school of Korn Ferry in the fall. That’s all the expensive things, but Sunday may have helped. While it is unclear what the arrangement Straka and Mathers had in place, the typical number you hear on the tournament is a caddy that receives 10 percent of that week’s profits. Since this was a signature event, if Straka and Mathers were to go down to that 10 percent number, it would mean $ 360,000 per looper.
“Helps a tone,” said Mathers. “(Pro Golf) is expensive. Everything is expensive. I’m still in shock.”
Straka and Mathers both play out Greystone in Alabama, where they have become friends in recent years. Straka’s normal caddy, Long tour Looper Duane Bock, hurt his back in front of the tournament, so Straka called Mathers on Monday to help.
“He immediately jumped on a flight and was here ready to go,” Straka said. “Very lucky I was able to do it obviously. I’ve played a lot of golf with him, so I was very comfortable being beside him. It was a lot of fun having it in the bag really.”
Straka ended with a 68-year-old two-year-old for his fourth career PGA Tour’s career. He also won Express Earlier this year and joins Rory Mcilroy as the only winners of many winners in the tournament so far this season.
“My whole goal today was to keep it in the same process,” Mathers said. “That was all I thought about the last two holes. I was like, if he does what he is doing all day, he got it.”
After the victory was sealed, Mathers removed the 18th hole of the hole for a hold. He also hugged Bock, who had been in place all week.
“I’m very proud of you, a good job,” Bock said. “Easy is easy, man. Simply breathe.”
“It’s is incredible,” said Mathers. “I think I only watched one day of a PGA Tour event personally in my life and then all of a sudden I was thrown into the ropes. So it was an experience for sure. The most delightful thing I have ever done.”
