Ernesto Mercado and Antonio Moran both successfully weighed in today for their fight on Saturday. Light welterweight contender Mercado is looking to put on a show by beating Moran and calling out one of the big names at 140.
Light welterweight Mercado is on the shelf with an injury that has kept him out of the ring since last January. Fortunately for him, he gets a second fight this year against the veteran Moran.
Mercado’s 10-round fight was buried three-deep on the Diego Pacheco vs. Kevin Lele Sadjo card. Despite the fact that he is the same age as Pacheco, Ernesto is not as uptight as him. He was not quickly located. This is the missing ingredient. Therefore, it is important that he looks good against Moran so that he can gain more visibility.

Mercado defeated Jose Pedraza with a fourth-round knockout last January. He says he wants to fight the winner of the Teofimo Lopez vs. Shakur Stevenson fight. This is unlikely, as Turki Alalshikh said he planned a big fight for the winner. It wouldn’t be Mercado he would be talking about.
“I want to fight Teofimo and Shakur, so I’m almost a little disappointed that one of them is going to take an ‘L’ because it might decrease if I beat them, but it should be a great fight, and they’re trying to put on the best fights, which is really good,” said Ernesto Mercado.
“I think Shakur won it, which is in my favor because he’s not going to fight against my will.”
Mercado (17-0, 16 KOs) vs. Moran (31-7-1, 21 KOs) will fight in a 10-round on DAZN this Saturday, December 13, from the Stockton Arena in Stockton, California.
