Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka scored his 50th Premier League goal in the opening moments of the Gunners’ clash with Liverpool at the Emirates.
The England international was expected to miss Sunday’s home game after picking up an injury earlier this month while on international duty. He had not played for his club since the October break, missing a 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth and a tight win at Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.
However, breaking news from the Arsenal pitch revealed that Saka would be fit enough to face Liverpool, starting on the right wing.
Its availability was welcome news on the north side of London, which remain in the in the midst of an injury crisis with key players such as Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori struggling with fitness issues.
Mikel Arteta admitted earlier in the week that he was not worried on mounting injuries but will have been delighted to include Saka’s name in the line-up after the winger scored his 50th Premier League goal inside the opening ten minutes of Sunday’s clash. Taming Ben White’s forward pass, Arsenal’s skipper of the day flicked the ball between Andy Robertson’s legs before slotting it past a helpless Caoimhin Kelleher.
It’s another milestone that the quick-footed winger can add to his squad. Still only 23, Saka became Arsenal’s youngest player to score a half-century of Premier League goals, surpassing the great Thierry Henry (who was 24).
The Hale End graduate has been a vital member of the arsenal team since his promotion to the senior team in 2019, scoring four goals in 11 appearances already this season to go with seven assists.
