Bryson Dechambeau has encouraged players to go up to Tees forward and see how low they can go. With a game like him, it is clear that the strategy has helped him learn how to collect birds. I have been wanting to try this strategy and recently I had the opportunity. Here’s what I learned.
A small backdrop
I’m a scratched golf player and normally play from about 6,100 to 6,300 yards. I hit a 75 yard and run the ball about 250.
When I tested Bryson’s theory, I moved to Tees’s earlier group in the golf course which is straight in 4,000 yards.
I had my children with me. My eight-year-old daughter usually plays from these tee and my 11-year-old son rose to a set of 4500 of his normal copies to join us.
How did it go
For starters, we had a lot of fun. I liked the kids for me to play from their boxes and we have to discuss strategy, difficulty of the course and other aspects of the game.
I played well. Unfortunately, I didn’t make a blow over 10 meters all day and ended up shooting 64. I made four birds in the front and four on the back.
While I didn’t expect to shoot 59 as Bryson encourages, I think I left some shots there. That is, it was not the result that made this kind of entertainment (and, honestly, addictive).
What is what teaches you about your game.
Here are some things that became clear playing this way:
Just because a hole is short does not mean it is easy
The idea that a short hole is equal to a light hole is simply wrong. Distance makes golf easier but does not do it light.
Some of the approaches from these shorter sources were actually more difficult. If you are not used to playing from Tees ahead, you will also find out that half -booth shots with which you have left in access require a better control in the distance.
I’m used to shots 145- or 165-Oborr in a green. When access is 63 yard or 71 yard, for example, it takes a little more subtlety. Is a good test.
I’m giving myself a lot of space for distribution at tee shots
From my normal teas, hitting the right road is not too difficult. The fair roads in my home flow are of average width, but there is a lot of space in areas where my normal lands land.
When I played ahead, that room was gone. Now I was trying to place the discs in much narrower areas. If I hit it accurately, I was rewarded with a stroke of less than 75 or100 meters green. If I was missing, however, I was in a bunker or tough thick.
Playing all the way forward forces you to choose a very specific line from tee. Again, it’s a good test.
Comes short in bird shocks is in vain
Full discovery: It was not this advanced experiment that taught me this, but it was a good memory.
When playing from Tees forward, the goal is to go as little as possible. If you put yourself in a good position and then leave a bird of short birds, it hurts.
In a normal round, I’m sometimes glad to accept a par and go on. For Bryson’s view, this is a mistake.
Bryson says playing from Tees ahead helps develop a real marking mentality and I fully agree.
You start playing a “bird game” and it becomes addicted.
What bryson gets right about marking mind
Bryson’s tips are not just about shooting a low crazy number. It’s about learning how to think as a scorer.
Most of the players, even good, play from a place of care. We defend before, avoid big mistakes and quarrel.
But when you play, it compels you in a first poultry mentality. This teaches you how to stay aggressive, how to keep your foot on gas and how to make as much as possible any option.
Final Judgment: Is it a good idea?
I think every golf player should try to play a round from the teat ahead. You will learn a lot about your game, you will have fun and it will change The way you think about the marking.
